Flames Run Short Over Weekend

LANCASTER, Calif. – The Flames dropped a two-game doubleheader on Saturday to the University of Antelope Valley.

Game 1: 5-2. Game 2: 12-5.

Saturday's loses move the Flames to 18-12 on the 2016 season.

The Pioneers took an early 1-0 lead over Bethesda. The Flames would take the lead in the fourth inning, 2-1, after collecting three hits and a sacrifice fly. Those two runs would be the only ones for the remainder of the game.

Frankie Wright picked up the loss for the Flames.  He pitched seven innings and gave up eight hits, five runs, and struck out two.

Game 2

In the final game of the day, the Pioneers crossed home plate in five-consecutive innings (3^rd-7^th) to overcome a 5-1 deficit to defeat the Bethesda, 12-5, to complete the sweep.

A four-run fourth tied the game at five apiece, and put all of the momentum in favor of the hosts. The Flames got three in the inning before UAV responded with four runs on five hits and one error.

Now with the battle in a 5-5 tie, the Pioneers continued to roll with two in both the fifth and sixth innings, followed by a trio of runs in the bottom of the seventh to get to the final outcome.

Braxton Diaz-Ravello picked up the loss fo the Flames.  He pitched 3.2 innings and gave up eight hits, five runs, and struck out one.  He faced 19 batters.

The Flames wil be back in action on 3/15/16 against GSAC school Hope International University. The game will be at Hope, with a start time of 2:00pm.
